Who Can Apply Under The Royal Academy of Engineering?

The Royal Academy of Engineering endorses researchers and professionals who are advancing knowledge in fields spanning the chemical, engineering, medical research, aerospace, and civil. Whether you're leading innovation in medical devices, or publishing groundbreaking work in engineering physics, you may be eligible.

Their endorsement covers both Exceptional Talent (leaders) and Exceptional Promise (emerging leaders) across a wide range of academic and technical domains.

Yes this is for pure academic people, but exceptions are applicable; we in the past applied for our research clients without PhD and received the endorsement. So you must qualify the criteria for research than just focusing on the PhD.

The Royal Academy of Engineering covers an extensive spectrum of engineering disciplines and multi-disciplinary areas. Here's just a quick snapshot of the types of work that fall under their remit:

    • Academic or research appointment
    • Individual fellowship
    • Endorsed funder
    • Peer review
  • Peer Review

If you do not currently hold a Senior Appointment at an approved UK research organisation, an Individual Fellowship from a recognised funder, or a Substantial Research Grant funded by an endorsed organisation, our Peer Review Route services can help you build a strong case for endorsement based on your academic achievements and future potential.

    Our Peer Review Route Services

    1. Eligibility Assessment

We conduct a rigorous analysis of your academic and professional credentials to ensure you meet the requirements. Key criteria include:

    • Active engagement in an approved research discipline.
    • Ongoing work at a UK-based or international university, research institute, or R&D-focused business.
    • Possession of a PhD or equivalent professional research experience (including clinical or industrial research).
    2. Strategic CV Development

A well-structured and appropriately formatted CV is essential for a successful application. We help you:

    • Craft a CV that effectively showcases your career progression, research outputs, and international standing.
    • Ensure compliance with UKRI formatting guidelines (maximum three A4 pages, typed).
    3. Recommendation Letters

A strong letter of recommendation from an eminent UK-based professional is a cornerstone of your Global Talent Visa Endorsement application. At Themis Technologies, we understand the critical role these letters play in convincing the endorsing body—such as the Royal Academy of Engineering—of your potential to contribute meaningfully to the UK’s research and innovation landscape.

We help you identify the most appropriate referees within your professional network—individuals with internationally recognised expertise and strong standing in their respective fields. Our team works closely with you to structure each letter in a way that:

    • Aligns with the specific criteria set by the endorsing body
    • Clearly highlights both your achievements and the referee’s authority in the field
    • Demonstrates your leadership and impact in research, innovation, or engineering
    • Emphasises your future contributions to the UK’s R&D ecosystem

We also ensure the language and content avoid common pitfalls that may lead to rejection—such as vague accomplishments, unsupported claims, or references to unrelated experiences.

Each letter is carefully crafted to present a compelling, authentic, and credible case that you are a global leader or emerging leader—precisely the kind of talent the UK seeks to attract and retain. Let us help you make your application stand out for all the right reasons.

    4. Evidence & Submission

Our comprehensive, end-to-end service ensures your application fully meets UKRI’s rigorous standards. We prepare and organise all required documentation, including your personal statement and key supporting evidence. Every application undergoes a meticulous quality review to ensure it aligns with the expectations of the endorsing body.

We handle the entire submission process on your behalf and continue to support you through to formal submission. In the event of an unsuccessful outcome, we provide strategic advice and manage the appeals process for you. If the appeal is unsuccessful, we don’t stop there—we help you address the feedback from the endorsing body and guide you through your reapplication. We’re with you every step of the way, until you achieve your goal.
